Occasionally, regular vapers feel that their tongue is coated with something, and they lose the ability to taste the vape juice. Usually, this loss of taste lasts for one to three days but can continue for weeks too. Though this symptom may be scary for a new vaper, almost every time, it is temporary. Also, it does not hurt the nicotine or vapor absorption; still, it hampers the vaping experience as you can’t taste the flavor of the vape juice.
What are the causes of Vaper’s Tongue?
Our tongue has 2000 to 8000 taste buds responsible for the sensation of taste or gustatory taste. These buds can recognize five different tastes viz. sourness, sweetness, bitterness, saltiness, and savory. These taste buds are moistened by the saliva secreted by the salivary glands, and then the different tastes are experienced. Also, the buds regenerate continuously, so your taste remains the same each time you vape. What regular vaping does is, it makes your mouth dry, devoid of saliva. Without saliva moistening the taste buds, they can’t work properly, so you temporarily lose taste.
How to Cure Vaper’s Tongue?
Cut your Alcohol and Caffeine
Caffeine and alcohol are diuretics, which means you urinate more often when you consume them, which can cause dehydration of your mouth. So, if you feel that you are not experiencing any taste in your mouth, limit your alcohol and caffeine intake.
Clean Your Tongue
You must have a clean tongue to get the maximum flavor of the vaping juices. So, in case you experience the symptoms of vaper’s tongue, i.e., loss of taste, clean your tongue with a brush or, better still, with tongue scrapers that will remove the film covering your tongue.
Stay Hydrated
Drinking water is very important for the general health of any individual, including a vaper. As a vapor, you can also get more flavor from vaping when you stay hydrated.
Stop Smoking
If you get rid of your smoking habit, then also it will be beneficial for your taste. Your taste buds will function more efficiently, and so, you will enjoy vaping more.
Use Oral Hygiene Aids
You can use oral hygiene aids like Biotene toothpaste, mouthwash, spray, and gel. Biotene is better than other oral cleaning agents that contain alcohol.
Switch Your Vape Juices
Vaping the same flavor all the time will give rise to flavor fatigue to your taste buds. You can try out different flavors to get a new vaping experience and get a respite from the vaper’s tongue.
Increase Intervals Between Vaping
If you increase the intervals between vaping, that can give your taste buds a rest. So, it reduces the chances of getting a vaper’s tongue.
Try a Cooling Flavor
You can try a cool flavor like menthol if you develop a vaper’s tongue. Menthol stimulates thermoreceptors so you feel cool and refreshed. Menthol flavored vapes reset the taste buds.
Vape Unflavored Juices
You can try out unflavored juices to give a break to your taste buds. These juices don’t have a distinguishing taste other than little sweetness. As an added advantage, these are affordable and you get these in varying nicotine levels.
